Thad Manning's Vox

When you hop around on YouTube, you never know where you will end up. I started the evening watching Juli's Warum video and ended up discovering Aryn Michelle, accomplished classical singer and talented lyricist who is hoping to fund a pop album through SellaBand, an interesting site that provides aspiring artists with a venue to attract fans (believers) and funds.

I am currently giving Blogger a try and have posted several items there. However, I will have to say that Vox is a much more enjoyable platform to blog on. 

I was watching a ABC News clip on Yahoo describing companies that were profiting from the recession including McDonalds, Hershey and Liquor Stores. Wine and Liquor sales are up it proclaimed and not for celebratory reasons. Fade to a shot of the commentator sitting alone on a couch with a glass of wine positioned behind a huge bottle of cheap, Carlo Rossi wine. Doesn't this look weird? There are lots of cheap wines that come in regular sized bottles.  Did they purposefully choose this bottle because it is large and would definitely not be mistaken for a more expensive vintage? Is this meant to be a sign of solidarity with the less fortunate or a subliminal message about the state of the economy? 

Another odd feature is that the entire layout of the shot looks like it was thrown together. The table supporting the bottle of wine is too small to belong in front of the couch and has been turned at an angle toward the camera. 

On a related note, as I was watching this clip, I received an email from Classmates asking me to renew at the incredible 75% off price of $9.95 a year. I guess they are hurting as well.

Wine

After recently discovering the music of Caramell and Blumchen, I headed back out to iTunes once more in search of something new. I found the album Ein neuer Tag (2006) by German rock group Juli. I am attaching a link to the official video from their song Zerrissen, and the making of "Dieses Leben" video because YouTube won't let me embed it.
